ROLL OUT THE CARPET OF FAITH.

Today, while I was journalizing Scripture, God gave me an image about living by faith. When we take steps of faith, it’s like we roll out the carpet for God to enter in and do amazing things. I could see it in my mind as I prayed — this rolled-up carpet being unfurled. In contrast, when we just live by what we know and can see and predict, we don’t really give God any room to come in and do what only He can do. But when we take steps of faith — like when we choose to be obedient to God even when we don’t know what the outcome will be but we are trusting him — then we roll out the carpet for Him to walk right in and work his WONDERS. As Anthony pointed out when I shared this concept with him, it’s like the tree of knowledge versus the tree of life. The flesh wants to live by what it knows and what it thinks it can control, but that doesn’t give God permission to come into our lives and do what only He can do. When we live by the Spirit and eat of the tree of life, we trade KNOWING for TRUSTING. Then, instead of existing within our plans, we get to experience what He has planned. I feel like God gets excited when we take steps of faith because it’s like we are rolling out the carpet for Him, and He’s like, “Yay! Now I can come in and do something amazing!” How can you roll out the carpet for God? Maybe He’s asking you to take a step of faith in your finances by giving. Maybe He’s nudging you to reach out to someone with whom you need to share the gospel or to whom you need to confess, apologize, or forgive and reconcile. Maybe you’re a young woman like I was, who is digging in her heels about taking the risk of dating when maybe God is trying to tell you to give a godly man a chance! Of course, guard your heart and walk in wisdom. But what if the thing that you feel most doubtful about is the area in which God is asking you to take a step of faith? Entrust all your doubts to him, roll out that carpet, and let Him work his wonders.
