Birthday Dinner #1 — Salernos at the Summit

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

Thank you, Tony and Kathy Salerno, for taking us out to a delicious dinner at Summit House Restaurant in Fullerton on my birthday, August 11.

As always, I felt honored to be at the table with Tony Salerno, a consistently forward-thinking leader and man of wisdom who keeps conversations interesting! And Kathy is so sweet how she took plenty of photos of me and of Anthony & me and thoughtfully helped us pack up our leftovers (and even some of theirs!) to make sure we had great food to enjoy for the following days.

God could not have placed me in a better family.

When I moved to Los Angeles by myself, I left behind my parents and most of my extended family in the Midwest, but the Bible says,

“everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or farms for My name’s sake will receive many times as much…” (Matthew 19:29).

So, whatever and whoever we leave behind to follow Christ, God will provide us with a local or current replacement or addition. Whenever and wherever I have moved at the Lord’s leading, He has always been faithful to provide me with a local “second family.”

This time, I actually get to keep them; it’s permanent! 😃

I am forever grateful for my family of origin in Kansas and also for my family in California, including my in-laws and my brother Lane, who I was privileged to see the following day.

Whatever you must leave behind to live out God’s call on your life, don’t fear that your step of obedience means you’ll go without. When you’re dedicated to God and live open-handed, free to let go and free to receive, you will always inherit and lay hold of all you need.
